What is bankruptcy?

Expert answer

Bankruptcy is a legal process through which individuals or businesses who cannot repay their debts seek relief from some or all of those obligations. It involves either selling assets or agreeing a repayment plan, giving a fresh start while treating creditors fairly.

It badly affects your credit score, and you may find it very hard to get any kind of credit for around 6–7 years afterwards.
