Community Guidelines

How we keep #DebtFreeIndia safe and useful for everyone

People come here during some of the most stressful times of their lives. These guidelines exist to protect them. They apply to every question, reply and profile.

Be kind

  • No judgment, shaming or lectures about how someone got into debt.
  • No insults, threats, harassment or hate of any kind.
  • Disagree with ideas, not people.

Protect privacy — yours and others’

  • Never post account numbers, loan IDs, PAN/Aadhaar numbers, phone numbers, addresses or photos of documents.
  • Don’t name or post details about other private individuals, including recovery agents’ personal numbers.
  • You can name banks and lenders when describing what happened — keep it factual.
  • Never try to find out who an anonymous member is.

No selling, no soliciting

  • Recovery agents, lenders, loan brokers and “quick loan” services are not allowed to post, offer loans or contact members.
  • No advertising, referral links or promotion of products or services.
  • Never ask another member for money, documents or to move a conversation to WhatsApp or phone.

Share responsibly

  • Share what worked for you, but be clear about what’s your own experience and what’s general fact.
  • Don’t encourage anything illegal, like hiding assets or ignoring court orders.
  • Answers from SingleDebt advisors are marked with a tick. They are general guidance, not personal legal advice.

If you need urgent help

If you’re being threatened, contact the police. For recovery-agent harassment, you can complain to your bank and then the RBI Ombudsman. If you are feeling overwhelmed or having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out to someone now — in India you can call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24/7).

Reporting and moderation

  • Every question and reply has a Report button. Reports are private.
  • Moderators review every report. When three different members report a post, it’s hidden automatically until a moderator checks it.
  • We may edit posts to remove personal details, or remove posts that break these guidelines.
  • Repeated or serious breaches lead to a warning, suspension or permanent ban. Spam and solicitation accounts are banned straight away.
