Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

This policy explains how [SingleDebt legal entity name] (“SingleDebt”, “we”, “us”) handles your personal data on the #DebtFreeIndia forum at new-forum.singledebt.in (the “Forum”). It is written to meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). If you don’t agree with it, please don’t create an account.

1. What we collect

  • Account details: your name, username, email address and password (stored only as an encrypted hash).
  • Optional profile details: date of birth, bio, profile photo and cover image — only if you add them.
  • What you post: questions, replies, helpful votes and reports, and whether you chose to post anonymously.
  • Technical data: your IP address and a login cookie, used to keep you signed in, prevent spam and keep a record of your consent.
  • Notifications: a record of alerts we send you (for example, when someone replies to your question).

Please don’t post account numbers, loan IDs, phone numbers, addresses or anything else that could identify you. If you do, we may edit or remove it.

2. Why we use it

  • To create and run your account and show your posts.
  • To send you emails you need: confirming your email, password resets, and reply notifications.
  • To keep the Forum safe: moderation, preventing spam, abuse and fraud.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your Forum details to market SingleDebt’s paid services to you unless you contact us or ask us to.

3. Anonymous posting

When you post anonymously, other members and visitors see “Anonymous” instead of your name. Your identity is still linked to the post in our systems and can be seen by SingleDebt moderators, so they can deal with spam and abuse. We may have to disclose it if the law requires us to (for example, under a valid court or government order).

4. Who we share it with

  • Service providers who host the website and send our emails, under contracts that require them to protect your data.
  • Authorities, only when the law requires it.

Your questions and replies are public, so anyone visiting the Forum (including search engines) can read them — with your name hidden if you posted anonymously.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account data while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal details within [30] days. Your public posts are either deleted or permanently anonymised so the discussion still makes sense for others. We keep limited records longer only where the law requires it.

6. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you can:

  • ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • ask us to correct, complete, update or erase your data;
  • withdraw your consent at any time — this is as easy as giving it (email us, or delete your account). Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect what we did before you withdrew it;
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to;
  • complain to our Grievance Officer (below). If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

You can update your name, email, date of birth and bio yourself in your profile under “About & settings”.

7. Cookies

We use one essential cookie (dfi_auth) to keep you logged in. It is secure and can’t be read by other websites. [If you use analytics such as Google Analytics, list it here.]

8. Children

The Forum is only for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.

9. Security

Passwords are hashed, the login cookie is secure, and the site runs over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will notify you and the authorities of a breach as the law requires.

10. Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you by email or on the Forum.

11. Contact and Grievance Officer
